Prescription Problem
Hilda
I just paid $150 for anti-biotics, but my plan says $30 brand name drug co-pay. What's going on?
--Jay in NY

Dear Jay:
It sounds like a.) you have a nasty infection, and b.) your plan has a prescription deductible. Prescription deductibles are separate from medical deductibles. Your prescription co-pay won't start until you've paid the full presription deductible.

Those tricky separate deductibles are a great way to lower the cost of a health plan, but they can lead to unexpected costs. (Like you just experienced).

Consider changing to a different plan if the upcharge of removing the deductible is less than the deductible iteself.

Also, stay out of dirty hottubs.
